UWF ranks top 10 in U.S. News & World Report’s Top Public Schools – Regional South Rankings

For the second consecutive year, the University of West Florida ranks in the top 10 public institutions in the region by U.S. News & World Report, which released its 2024 Best Colleges rankings on Sept. 18.

“We are pleased that our high-quality programs and the opportunities we provide students are reflected in these national rankings,” said University of West Florida President Martha D. Saunders. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and success of the entire UWF community. We are grateful to our Board of Trustees, the Florida Board of Governors and the Florida Legislature for supporting our efforts.”

U.S. News & World Report awarded UWF four Best Colleges award badges as symbols of excellence. UWF received badges for ranking among the top regional universities in the South in the following categories: Regional University South; Regional Public University South; Best Colleges for Veterans Regional South; and Undergraduate Nursing.

UWF received its highest ranking in the Best for Vets category, earning a spot in the top 10 for the second consecutive year, at No. 8. UWF is well known for its support for veterans, active-duty service members and their dependents through the Military & Veterans Resource Center. The MVRC serves as a leading campus advocate for military, dependents and veteran students, coordinating with multiple university offices and services to ensure their needs are met. The Center provides assistance with VA education benefits, active duty tuition assistance, out-of-state fee waiver, academic advising coordination and tutoring. UWF consistently earns accolades such as being named a Military Friendly® School, which distinguishes UWF as an institution committed to sustained success for veterans, active duty members of the armed forces, future Army and Air Force officers and other military-affiliated students.

U.S. News & World Report bases its rankings by comparing institutions across the nation on 19 diverse academic measures. This is the 39th year for the rankings. For more information about the University of West Florida, visit For more information about U.S. News & World Report rankings, visit
