UWF to open new restaurant on campus

The University of West Florida is opening a new, portable restaurant on campus. Bistro Blue, an outdoor café, will feature jazz music, decking and a New Orleans-inspired menu.

Bistro Blue will be open for business Monday, May 14. The grand opening for the restaurant is Tuesday, May 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. UWF President Judith Bense and Vice President of Administrative Services Matt Altier will speak at the event, which will feature a cake-cutting, refreshments, a raffle and ribbon-cutting.

Bistro Blue is a self-contained restaurant-on-wheels, allowing it to travel to various locations on and off campus. Its usual location on campus will be between Buildings 12 and 18 and will be open over the summer from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Fall semester hours of operation are forthcoming. Decking and chairs will be built in this area to accommodate customers and will remain behind when the restaurant is travelling.

The menu includes light breakfast food such as bagels, sandwiches and pastries, as well as lunch food such as jambalaya and bistro sandwiches.

“This restaurant meets a need in our area in a fun way,” said Ellen Till, director of UWF Business Affairs and Auxiliary Services. “The music, food and outdoor setting take advantage of our campus’ natural beauty.”

Bistro Blue is a partnership between the university and Chartwells Dining Services.
