All university locations, including the Pensacola campus, UWF Emerald Coast, UWF Historic Trust, will close tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. and will remain closed through Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11:59 a.m. This includes all classes, events, campus activities and online courses.

Normal University operations, classes, events and campus activities will resume on Saturday, Oct. 19 at noon.

According to the most recent update from the National Weather Service, initial impacts are expected to begin Friday afternoon and make landfall on Saturday, Oct. 19. The storm is projected to depart Northwest Florida by Saturday afternoon.

Residential Students: If necessary, a decision may be made to evacuate UWF residential students to the on-campus ride-out facility. This decision will be made as the storm progresses and communicated in a timely manner to residential students. Dining Services will work with Housing and Residence Life on facilitating dining options during the closure. These options will be communicated to residential students through Housing and Residence Life staff.

Before departing tomorrow, faculty and staff are asked to follow the below precautionary measures to prepare work areas for the storm:

  • Unplug computers and other sensitive electronic equipment, if possible.
  • Turn off and unplug your battery backup/uninterruptible power supply (UPS), if possible.
  • Ensure that you have taken all computer equipment off the floor (such as towers, monitors, battery backups and power strips), and placed them on your desk.
  • Cover your computer equipment with heavy weight plastic sheeting (see your building emergency coordinator).
  • Close your window blinds to help stop potential debris from entering offices.

Please consult with your building emergency coordinator for details and further instructions.
