UWF’s William Healey elected to NIRSA Board of Directors

William M. Healey, recreation and sports services director at the University of West Florida, was elected to the NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation Board of Directors as the At-Large Director. The honor was announced on Feb. 8, after an online vote by NIRSA members.

Beginning May 1, Healey will serve a three-year term governing strategic initiatives for NIRSA entities and advancing efforts in strategic value areas, which include equity, diversity and inclusion; global perspective; health and well-being; leadership; service; and sustainable communities. Additionally, he will help integrate educational content designed from a comprehensive professional competencies framework, sharing NIRSA research and expanding collaborative relationships with other higher education associations.

“I am proud to serve an organization that I’ve been a member of since 1974. NIRSA is a leader in campus recreation nationwide, and I am happy to assist it moving forward,” said Healey.

Among many distinguished accolades, Healey brings an extensive knowledge of the recreation industry to the board thanks to 42 years of NIRSA membership and experience working in recreation. He holds a Master of Science in Recreation and Park Administration from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health from the University of Central Missouri.

Since its founding in 1950, NIRSA has supported leaders in collegiate recreation. NIRSA membership has grown to include nearly 4,500 dedicated professionals, students and businesses, serving an estimated 8.1 million students. For more information about NIRSA, visit nirsa.org.
