UWF and Santa Rosa County School district form joint teacher training program

The University of West Florida (UWF) is starting Teachers Teaching Teachers – or 3T – this Spring, the first program of its kind in Florida. The unique program partners the Santa Rosa County School District (SRCSD) and the UWF School of Education (SoE) in designing and implementing preservice teacher training programs.

Program participants complete the SRCSD’s initial teacher training while they are still in school, rather than after graduation.

“This will allow students to move easily and directly into instructional positions with the district,” said Bill Evans, director of the UWF School of Education. “This melding of expertise will produce a preservice teacher who is well trained and fully inducted into the policies and procedures of the SRCSD.”

The school district will hire a number of the students who complete the program. This project will serve all grade levels, including middle and secondary school preservice teachers, as well as elementary and special education preservice teachers.
