All University of West Florida locations will reopen and classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

UWF is fully engaged in providing assistance in Florida’s recovery following Hurricane Irma’s impact on the peninsula. Our efforts focus on providing support to our students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as all Floridians and other Florida institutions in need of assistance.

Below is an update regarding the closure of the University of West Florida in relation to Hurricane Irma.

All UWF locations are closed and classes are canceled Friday, Sept. 8 through Monday, Sept. 11.

On-campus housing continues to operate as usual.

The Nautilus Market hours are as follows:
Friday, Sept. 8: 7:15 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 11: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Health, Leisure and Sports Facility hours are 12 to 6 p.m. and the Aquatic Center hours are 1 to 6 p.m. from Sept. 8 through Monday, Sept. 11. These hours will remain in place unless the University determines a need for the buildings to be used as shelters.

All other services, activities and events, including all home athletic events, are cancelled.

University officials worked to ensure that financial aid refunds were distributed as scheduled to students today. Additionally, the University will not be deleting students for nonpayment until Tuesday, Sept. 12; those will be reviewed closely prior to the deletion.

Based on the current forecast from the National Weather Service, the path of Hurricane Irma is expected to remain east of the local area. However, University officials encourage students, faculty and staff to learn more about storm preparedness at uwf.im/uwfstorm.

Hurricane Irma Update: UWF closed Friday, Sept. 8 to Monday, Sept. 11
Sept. 7 at 10:20 p.m.

All University of West Florida locations will be closed and classes are cancelled (including all online courses) Friday, Sept. 8 to Monday, Sept. 11.

On-campus housing and dining services will continue throughout the weekend as usual.

All other services, activities and events, including all athletic events, are cancelled.

Faculty and Staff: Essential personnel are expected to report to work. If you are unsure if you are essential personnel, please contact your supervisor.

This evening, Governor Rick Scott directed all public K-12 schools, state colleges, state universities and state offices to close Friday, Sept. 8 through Monday, Sept. 11 to ensure the state has every space available for sheltering and staging.

Hurricane Irma Update: Sept. 7, 2017

Governor Rick Scott is directing all public K-12 schools, state colleges, state universities and state offices to close Friday, Sept. 8 through Monday, Sept. 11 to ensure the state has every space available for sheltering and staging. All University of West Florida locations will be closed on those dates. This includes all classes, events, campus activities and online courses.

University officials will provide additional information shortly.

Hurricane Irma Update: Sept. 7, 2017
12:11 p.m.

University of West Florida officials continue to actively monitor the path of Hurricane Irma. At this time, the University is fully operational and will remain open on Friday.

According to the most recent update from National Weather Service, the path of Hurricane Irma is expected to remain well east of our local area. The closest approach to the area is expected to be during the day Monday, when there will be a possibility of gusty wind.

If conditions change, the University will update the campus community through email, uwf.edu, social media and the UWF Mobile Alert text messaging system.

Online Courses: Online courses remain fully operational at this time. However, if you are participating in online courses from areas that may be affected by Hurricane Irma, please contact your faculty members as soon as possible to let them know of your situation and that you will connect back with them as soon as you can safely do so. We are asking faculty to work with you to allow extra time on assignment completion and engagement in your fully online courses.

University of West Florida officials are closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Irma, which is currently a Category 5 storm in the Caribbean.

All University of West Florida locations remain open at this time. If conditions change, the University will update the campus community through email, social media and the UWF Mobile Alert text messaging system.
