Hurricane Dorian Update #2

University officials are closely monitoring Hurricane Dorian, which is currently a Category 3 Hurricane heading toward the east coast of Florida. All University of West Florida locations remain open at this time. Florida Virtual Campus Gainesville location will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Florida Virtual Campus Tallahassee location will remain open. 

According to the most recent update from the National Weather Service, the path of Hurricane Dorian is projected to make landfall as a Category 4 near Jupiter, Florida, and continue north along the east coast of Florida on Tuesday, Sept. 3. At this time, Hurricane Dorian is not expected to impact Northwest Florida. 

If conditions change, University officials will communicate with students, faculty and staff via email, uwf.edu, facebook.com/westfl, twitter.com/uwf and the UWF Mobile Alert text messaging system. To learn more about Mobile Alert, visit uwf.edu/mobilealert.

Online courses remain fully operational at this time. However, if you are participating in online courses from areas that may be affected by Hurricane Dorian, please contact your faculty members as soon as possible to let them know of your situation and that you will connect back with them as soon as you can safely do so. 

To ensure you receive future University communications, confirm that your contact information is up-to-date in the University’s communication system, “Mobile Alert.” Log in to my.uwf.edu and search “Mobile Alert” to update and add contact information. 

University officials encourage students, faculty and staff to learn more about storm preparedness at uwf.edu/uwfstorm. Weather information is available by tuning into WUWF at 88.1FM or online at wuwf.org. Updates from the National Weather Service are available at www.weather.gov/mob and twitter.com/NWSMobile.

University officials are closely monitoring Hurricane Dorian, which is currently a Category 1 Hurricane heading toward the east coast of Florida. All University of West Florida locations remain open at this time. If conditions change, the University will update the campus community.

According to the most recent update from the National Weather Service, the path of Hurricane Dorian is projected to make landfall between Northeast Florida and South Florida as a Category 4 Hurricane on Monday, Sept. 2 and is expected to turn north after landfall.

The University will continue to update and communicate with students, faculty and staff via email, uwf.edu, facebook.com/westfl, twitter.com/uwf and the UWF Mobile Alert text messaging system. To learn more about Mobile Alert, visit uwf.edu/mobilealert.
