UWF Notice: Coronavirus Travel Restrictions

Based on current reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and travel advisories from the U.S. Department of State regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), UWF has made a determination that all university-sponsored travel (business-related travel, study abroad, exchange, faculty-led programs) to China, Italy, Japan and South Korea is prohibited until further notice. Since the COVID-19 situation remains fluid, the UWF community should be aware that travel restrictions to additional countries may occur with very little lead time.

It is recommended that faculty with scheduled study abroad programs for the summer semester work with their college administrators and the Office of International Affairs to determine the viability of the program. Students who have concerns regarding international travel for scheduled study abroad programs may contact the Office of International Affairs at international@uwf.edu.

UWF is asking for individuals who have visited any affected areas or who have come in contact with individuals who have recently arrived from these areas to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days before returning to campus. During the self-quarantine period:

  • Call UWF Student Health Services immediately at 850.474.2172. In order to minimize the risk for exposure on campus, do NOT visit Student Health Services.
  • If you believe you require immediate medical attention, whether at the E.R. or your medical provider’s office, inform the medical staff in advance that you have recently returned from an affected area or been in contact with someone from an affected area.
  • Avoid using public transportation if possible.
  • After your 14-day quarantine, call Student Health Services at 850.474.2172 to schedule an appointment to be cleared to return to class.

UWF will continue to monitor health warnings from the CDC and the U.S. Department of State and will make adjustments to travel restrictions as necessary.
