UWF to host lecture on ‘Firearms, Self Defense and the Public Interest’
The University of West Florida will host Dr. Gary Kleck, David J. Bordua Professor of Criminology from Florida State University, as he presents a lecture, titled “Firearms, Self Defense, and the Public Interest.” The event will take place on Friday, April 12 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Museum of Commerce in downtown Pensacola.
During his lecture, Kleck will discuss his research on gun control and implications for public policy. He will share research on important criminal justice topics with members of the local community. A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture.
Kleck is widely recognized as one of the top criminologists and gun control experts in the country. He has authored several books on guns and violence, includingPoint Blank: Guns and Violence in America, which won the American Society of Criminology’s 1993 Michael J. Hindelang award for the book that made the most outstanding contribution to criminology, and Armed: New Perspectives on Gun Control, which was selected to Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries’ 39th annual Outstanding Academic Title List.
