UWF honors professors with Rite of Passage lecture series
The University of West Florida announces the launch of Rite of Passage, a distinguished lecture series celebrating UWF faculty who were recently promoted to full professor. Throughout the 2013-2014 academic year, four professors will present a lecture on a topic of their choosing.
The first lecture, honoring Dr. Christopher Pomory, will take place this week. Pomory, a professor of biology within the College of Arts & Sciences, will present, “Assistant to Associate to Professor – What I Have Learned Along the Trail (or Was That Trial),” on Friday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Argonaut Athletic Club.
Pomory received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology with a minor in computer science from Rollins College. He received a Master’s of Science in zoology from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in biology from the University of South Florida.
He spent a year as a staff member at the marine lab of the University of Southern California in Catalina Island, Calif., before joining the UWF faculty in 2000. His laboratory examines questions concerning ecology, physiology and behavior of marine invertebrates. Pomory served as president of the UWF Faculty Senate from August 2011 to August 2013.
A reception will follow the lecture and the event is free and open to the UWF faculty, staff and students as well as the general public.
