UWF Historic Trust to host stamp collecting workshop
The University of West Florida Historic Trust’s Education Department and the Pensacola Philatelic Society, the local affiliated chapter of the American Philatelic Society, will host a free workshop “Stamp Collecting 101: King of Hobbies and the Hobby of Kings” on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Voices of Pensacola.
The workshop, led by President of the Pensacola Philatelic Society Dewey Barker, is in conjunction with the “Philately & Friendship: The Art of ACE” exhibition currently on view at the T.T. Wentworth, Jr. Museum.
Barker will present on stamp collecting from 10:15 to 11 a.m., followed by a stamp identification session from 11 to 11:30 a.m. The public is welcome to bring those hard to identify stamps to this session. Guided tours of the “Philately & Friendship: The Art of ACE” exhibition will be offered at 11:30 a.m., noon and 12:30 p.m. The final session from 1 to 2 p.m. will cover hands-on lessons in how to properly preserve and care for philatelic items.
