UWF Department of Music to host faculty recital for Corey McKern, baritone
The University of West Florida Department of Music is proud to present Corey McKern, visiting professor of voice, in a faculty recital on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Hall, located in the Center for Fine & Performing Arts, Building 82, on the Pensacola Campus.
The recital will include works by Handel and Hahn, as well as American composers such as Jon Duke, Paul Bowles and more.
McKern has earned high praise and critical acclaim for his appearances with opera companies across the United States, and he most recently performed the role of Sharpless “Madama Butterfly” at Opera Hong Kong. Of his portrayal as Marcello in “La bohème” at the Santa Fe Opera, the “Santa Fe New Mexican” newspaper, wrote, “McKern’s resolute, robust-voiced and rambunctious Marcello, a perfect picture of a wannabe Parisian painter, was one of the best I’ve ever heard.”
McKern is a former grant recipient from the Sullivan Foundation, as well as the first place winner of Opera Birmingham, Shreveport Opera and Mobile Opera competitions. He holds a Master of Music from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Mississippi State University. He is also a graduate of the Seattle Opera Young Artist Program.
