Incoming UWF students to compete in inaugural scholarship competition

The University of West Florida will host the inaugural President’s Scholarship Competition this Friday, Jan. 24 at the University of West Florida. At this one-day competition, select students will compete for the University’s most prestigious scholarships, including seven $50,000 Pace Presidential scholarships and seven Pace Honors scholarships as well as additional awards ranging from $12,000 to $20,000.

Several incoming freshman students were invited to participate in the event based on their high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores. During the competition, these students will be evaluated on high school academic records, test scores, interviews with faculty and a timed essay. The competition will also include a presidential luncheon and an introduction to the UWF Honors Program. Currently, 170 students will be participating the competition and more than 480 guests will be attending the event.

Below are the scholarships included in the competition:

Pace Presidential Scholarship: seven scholarships available
This scholarship, totaling more than $50,000, covers the student’s full tuition and fees, in addition to room and board for four years. Incoming students with University qualifications are automatically considered for this invitation. To be eligible, students must be graduating from a Florida high school in 2014 and admitted to the University by January 1, 2014 for the fall 2014 term.

Pace Honors Scholar Scholarship: seven scholarships available
This scholarship covers a student’s tuition and fees in conjunction with Florida Bright Futures, room and board in Pace Hall, and funding for an off-campus educational experience created by the student. To be eligible, students must be admitted to the University and the UWF Honors Program by January 3, 2014.

Scholarship winners will be notified the following week.
