UWF names Vice President of Strategic Initiatives
The University of West Florida has named Dr. Clifford Humphrey as Vice President, Strategic Initiatives / Chief of Staff, effective August 4. The position was created to work closely with Interim President Manny Diaz Jr., reporting directly to him as a member of the President’s Cabinet.
“I’m excited to welcome Dr. Humphrey as our new chief of staff,” Diaz said. “This role is key to keeping our priorities moving forward and making sure we’re aligned across the University and with our partners. Clifford brings great experience and energy to the table, and I’m looking forward to working together.”
As the chief of staff, Humphrey will serve as a key advisor and partner to the Interim President, driving strategic initiatives, managing critical operations and coordinating high-impact projects across the university and its external partners. He will use strong organizational, communications and decision-making skills to advance the University’s mission through research, teaching and operational excellence.
“As someone who was once briefly a student on this campus, it is an honor to return to UWF to aide Interim President Diaz in his determination to advance the University’s mission and serve this community, this region and the amazing state and people of Florida,” Humphrey said. “Let’s get to work.”
Humphrey joins UWF from the Florida Department of Education, where he served as executive vice chancellor for the Florida College System. He also taught a political philosophy course as an adjunct professor at Florida State University’s Institute for Governance and Civics. Prior roles include lecturer in politics at Hillsdale College, director of admissions at Thales College, high school teacher of classical languages and literature at Trinitas Christian School in Pensacola, postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Human Ecology at the Catholic University of America and executive director of the Institute for Leadership Development at Troy University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University, and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in politics from Hillsdale College.
