UWF Innovation Institute launches MyCareerShines, online system for Florida students and job seekers

MyCareerShines – Florida’s new career and education planning system – is now available to the vast majority of Floridians in school and the workforce. The system is powered by a suite of age-appropriate online tools that allow students and job seekers to develop a personalized plan that connects interests, skills and education to careers and jobs. Floridians can access the comprehensive system and online tools for free at www.MyCareerShines.org.

“MyCareerShines has everything under the sun to help you land your dream job,” said Dr. Karen Rasmussen, assistant provost and chief academic strategist at the University of West Florida Innovation Institute. “You can assess your skills and interests, explore careers, create a plan for education and prepare for a new career.”

MyCareerShines currently offers two online tools developed by Kuder, an internationally recognized firm specializing in research-based career assessments. Students in middle and high school can use Kuder Navigator® to develop an education plan that prepares them for college and a rewarding career after graduation. College students and job seekers can use Kuder Journey® to develop a plan to pursue a dream job or career change.

“It’s never too early or too late to start planning for your future,” said Dr. Rasmussen. “MyCareerShines helps you develop a plan for your education that will prepare you to pursue your dreams.”

MyCareerShines is fully funded by the Florida Legislature, which has made preparation a priority to give students the knowledge, skills and tools to succeed in school and the increasingly competitive global economy. The system is being implemented and managed by the UWF Innovation Institute, which manages Florida’s Student Hub of Innovative Educational Services – FloridaShines, for short.
