Arcadia Mill to host Archaeology in Action
Arcadia Mill Archaeological Site will host Archaeology in Action on weekdays from May 29 to June 15, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. As part of the UWF Division of Anthropology and Archaeology field school program, guests can visit the field school dig and learn about the antebellum plantation house and slave cabins that once stood at Arcadia. The program is free and open to the public.
Field school visitors will also get an exclusive preview of the Arcadia homestead property that will open to the public early next year. Guests must stop by the Visitor’s Center for directions to the dig site, which is open to pedestrian traffic only.
Arcadia Mill will also host a field lab on June 6 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Arcadia Classroom. Visitors can stop in and get their hands dirty while sorting through artifacts from the field school excavations. All participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
