UWF to offer bachelor’s in human resources management in Fall 2022
Starting in Fall 2022, the University of West Florida will offer a new Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Human Resources Management.
The UWF Board of Trustees approved the new degree program during its quarterly meeting held in March 2022. The interdisciplinary program, to be housed in UWF’s College of Business, is an undergraduate degree program consisting of 120 semester hours, offered on the Pensacola campus and online.
The program is aligned with the Society for Human Resource Management and will prepare graduates to sit for the SHRM Certified Professional exam, an industry-recognized certification.
“The BSBA in Human Resources Management is another example of the University’s commitment to expand academic programs that reflect the dynamic marketplace and provide students with the skills needed to ensure success as they enter the workforce,” said Dr. George Ellenberg, UWF Provost and Senior Vice President. “This program is designed to produce stand apart graduates ready to make their mark in human resources management.”
The BSBA in Human Resources Management program replaces the former BSBA Human Resources Management specialization and meets the needs of business and industry while providing graduates with a more recognizable degree in the field of human resources.
The program is launched in conjunction with the announcement of a $25,000 gift from Britt Landrum and Britt Landrum, Jr. to establish the Landrum Family Foundation scholarship endowment. The gift supports College of Business students in the human resources management program. The Landrum family and LandrumHR are ardent supporters of UWF.
“It is always exciting when great community partners step up to help us put students on paths to successful careers,” said Dr. Richard Fountain, dean of the College of Business. “This program will enhance educational and career opportunities for students focused on the growing field of Human Resources Management.”
Human resources is one of the fastest growing professions in the U.S. and prospects for the next decade are strong. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of human resources professionals is projected to grow 9% from 2020 to 2030, about as fast as the average for all other occupations.
