UWF to co-host 2022 Power Up Energy Expo

The University of West Florida will serve as co-host for the 2022 Power Up Energy Expo in Panama City on Oct. 19-20. The annual training and networking event, which brings together design, construction and sustainable energy professionals, is organized by the Gulf Coast Energy Network.

Participants will learn about the field of renewable energy and network with regional military, government and industry professionals. Dr. Matthew Schwartz, professor and associate vice president of Research Administration at UWF, will discuss a new regional innovation workforce initiative.

“The 2022 Power Up Conference is a wonderful opportunity for UWF to expand meaningful, strategic connections with its regional and national partners,” said Schwartz. “I am particularly excited to discuss with other attendees our recent efforts to expand university-industry partnerships to plan for a technology-based regional innovation engine program.”

Dave Robau, UWF environmental studies alumnus and executive director for Gulf Coast Energy Network, started the event in 2009. Four years ago, the event was moved to Panama City, due to his partnership with the region’s U.S. Air Force. This past year, Robau reached out to Schwartz, his former professor, to invite the University to co-host.

“I’m pleased to have UWF partnering with us this year,” Robau said. “The University is integral in economic development, workforce training and producing workforce professionals. Through this event, we’re fostering collaboration and making our community resilient.”
