UWF surpasses goal number of donors during second annual Day of Giving

The University of West Florida hosted its second annual Day of Giving on Thursday, April 18, raising more than $130,000 from 1,120 donors across the country. With a theme of “double the goal, double the impact,” the University built upon the success of last year’s event by doubling the goal number of donors during the 24-hour fundraising initiative.

“Argo Nation is filled with pride as we reflect on how we came together for a highly successful Day of Giving,” said UWF President Martha D. Saunders. “The future of UWF is bright thanks to our generous donors who invest in the success of our students.”

Day of Giving is an online, social media-driven effort that supports the University and its programs. Alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends direct their contributions among 14 featured funds. The goal for the initiative is to bring all Argos together on one day and make a lasting impact for current and future students.

This year, the University added two new featured funds to the event: the Center for Cybersecurity and the Argo Athletic Band. They joined Athletics, Student Emergency Support Fund, Military & Veterans Resource Center, UWF Historic Trust & Pensacola Museum of Art, Greatest Needs, Disabled Student Scholarship, First Generation Scholarship and each of the University’s five academic colleges as featured funds. The Athletics fund drew the highest number of donors and dollars followed by the Greatest Needs fund.

“We are so grateful for the support from UWF students, alumni, staff and community members,” said Howard J. Reddy, vice president for University Advancement. “While this is only our second year to host the UWF Day of Giving, it is already a beloved annual tradition which brings our University members together for a common goal.”

The University celebrated the event as part of UWF’s Founders Week, a weeklong celebration that serves as an opportunity to unite the UWF family, welcome alumni and visitors to campus, and give back to the community.
