The University of West Florida Wellness Services and UWF Peer Educators will host the 16th annual Take Back The Night event on Wednesday, April 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the University Commons Auditorium. This year’s theme is “It’s On Us,” a national sexual assault awareness campaign.

Take Back The Night serves as an international event to create safe communities and respectful relationships through awareness events and initiatives. Throughout its history, Take Back the Night has inspired both women and men to confront social ills and seek to end sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual abuse and all other forms of sexual violence.

This year’s Take Back The Night event will showcase “Creativity for a Cause” presentations, performances and winners. Creativity for a Cause is a University contest, encouraging students, faculty and staff to submit a song, dance, skit, poem, painting or drawing that expresses thoughts or reactions to sexual violence. Additionally, event participants will hear from survivors and hold a campus march. There will also be free shirts for students, food and performances from UWF students.

The “It’s On Us” campaign exists to raise awareness and bring an end to sexual assault on college campuses. UWF has joined this cultural movement to fundamentally shift the way students think about sexual assault by holding one another accountable and pledge their support in ways to stop domestic violence and sexual abuse.
