Organization to oversee Deepwater Horizon oil spill funds recovered by attorney general

The University of West Florida Center for Research and Economic Opportunity is organizing the inaugural meeting of Triumph Gulf Coast Inc. The meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Bayside Ballroom at 160 Sandestin Blvd. North in Miramar Beach, Florida.

Triumph Gulf Coast is a nonprofit corporation organized to oversee 75 percent of all funds recovered by the Florida attorney general for economic damages to the state that resulted from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Triumph Gulf Coast must establish, hold, invest and administer a trust account at a federally insured institution for the economic recovery, diversification and enhancement of the eight Northwest Florida counties disproportionately affected by the spill. Those counties include Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Bay, Gulf, Franklin and Wakulla.

Any person who wishes to appeal a decision by Triumph Gulf Coast or its board with respect to any manner considered at the meeting must have a record of the proceedings. He or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made.

A meeting agenda will be posted to the University of West Florida’s Office of Economic Development and Engagement website at www.uwf.edu/offices/oede. For directions and more information, contact OEDE at 850.439.5400. Any person who requires special accommodations because of physical impairment or disability should contact OEDE at 850.439.5400 at least 48 hours before the meeting.
