In this week’s Economic Report on WUWF 88.1-FM, Dr. Rick Harper, vice president of research and economic opportunity at the University of West Florida, discusses the chances of the U.S. economy falling into a recession soon.

June marks the end of the seventh full year of economic expansion, Harper said. While the risk of another recession is increasing, Harper said the chances continue to be “very low.”

“We’re probably looking at a number well under 20 percent for the risk of the economy going into recession within the next six months,” Harper said. “So things continue to be healthy. Lots of the components of the index of leading indicators continue to be strong. There’s no reason to suspect that a recession is likely in the near term.”
