The Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida will hold a special, no-cost “Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery” workshop on Thursday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Greater Pensacola Chamber office. During this educational course, attendees will learn how to develop a detailed hazard and continuity plan for their business.

Participants will understand what they can expect from Federal and State agencies in the event of a disaster, along with what resources are available before, during and after a storm from the FSBDC. Workshop attendees will learn about counseling, bridge loans and essential elements to operating a business while dealing with a disaster.

Daniel Cavanaugh will teach the workshop. Cavanaugh is a certified Business Continuity Professional through the Disaster Recovery Institute International and consultant with the FSBDC. He has served in state and local presidential declared disaster events including Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina. He is also a member of the Florida Emergency Management Team.

“The FSBDC is taking a proactive approach to assist businesses that want to mitigate impact and implement best practices toward recovery regardless of the disaster event,” said Cavanaugh. “Asset protection goes beyond what is included on the business’ balance sheet.”

“With this workshop our center hopes to educate our community with resources we can provide,” said Kelly Massey, regional director of the FSBDC at UWF. “We wish to remind business owners to plan ahead for any situation, not just a declared natural disaster. Companies can improve their stability by working with the FSBDC to prepare a comprehensive business continuity and recovery plan.”

Pre-registration for the workshop is recommended since seating is limited. To learn more visit, www.sbdc.uwf.edu.
