The ADP Research Institute reported this week that job growth has exceeded expectations. In this week’s “Economic Report,” Dr. Rick Harper, who leads the University of West Florida Center for Research and Economic Opportunity, spoke with WUWF 88.1-FM’s Sandra Averhart about how a changing employment landscape means that more jobs are leaving manufacturing and heading to the service industry.
“If you look at Northwest Florida, there are only about 5 percent of jobs that are in manufacturing with a little bit more in goods producing generally, particularly in construction,” he said. “We are a service economy, particularly in Florida, but even nationally the share of jobs in manufacturing is now well under 10 percent.”
