Despite expectations that they would raise interest rates, the Federal Reserve held rates once again this week. In this week’s “Economic Report,” Dr. Rick Harper, who leads the University of West Florida Center for Research and Economic Opportunity, spoke with WUWF 88.1-FM’s Sandra Averhart about what’s motivating the decision to not yet raise rates.

“We’ve had the Brexit. We’ve had some uncertainty in China, as well that has cast doubt on the overall health of the global marketplace,” Harper said. “With those concerns in mind, it’s become clear that the Fed is not going to raise rates based on expected future growth. They’re waiting to see that good growth happen.”
