UWF to host seminar for veterans, women and minorities in high-tech

The University of West Florida is partnering with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation to host “Venture In Northwest Florida: Connecting Veterans, Women and Minorities with Entrepreneurial Opportunities in High-Tech.” The seminar will take place on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the UWF Conference Center, located on the second floor of Building 22 on the Pensacola Campus.

The Office of Equity, Diversity and International Affairs, College of Business, Center for Entrepreneurship, Center for Research and Economic Opportunity and the Florida Small Business Development Center are co-hosting the event. Special guests will include individuals from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

The one-day event will consist of panel presentations where attendees will learn to get involved in high-tech enterprises, explore educational and entrepreneurial opportunities, and better understand what venture capitalists are looking for when investing in a start-up company.

“This is an amazing opportunity for the Northwest Florida community,” said Dr. Kim LeDuff, Chief Diversity Officer and Associate Vice Provost at UWF. “There are so many people who are simply looking for advice on how to make the first step. We hope that they will come out, learn, network and be inspired.”

Following the event, conference attendees will have the opportunity to network with venture capitalists, business owners and members of the Northwest Florida community.

The seminar is free and open to the public. For more information and registration, visit uwf.edu/venturein.
