UWF opens new portable restaurant on campus

The University of West Florida opened a new, portable restaurant on campus May 22. Bistro Blue is an outdoor café, featuring jazz music, decking and a New Orleans-inspired menu.

UWF President Judith Bense and Vice President of Administrative Services Matt Altier spoke at the grand opening, which featured a cake-cutting, refreshments, a raffle and ribbon-cutting.

“This is the first part of the university’s new look and attitude,” said Bense. “I’m happy the campus is moving in this direction. Bistro Blue is another step on our journey to increased visibility.”

Bistro Blue is a self-contained restaurant-on-wheels, allowing it to travel to various locations on and off campus. Its usual location on campus is between Buildings 12 and 18 and it is open during the summer from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The deck and chairs to accommodate customers will remain behind when the restaurant is travelling.

“This is the first of many projects coming our way,” said Altier. “Bistro Blue is the first example of our continued partnership with Chartwell’s and our excitement for the direction the campus is headed.”

The menu includes light breakfast food such as bagels, sandwiches and pastries, as well as lunch food such as jambalaya and bistro sandwiches.

Bistro Blue is a partnership between the University and Chartwells Dining Services.
