UWF to host 2014 Scholars Celebration

The University of West Florida will host its 2014 Scholars Celebration from Tuesday, April 15 to Saturday, April 26, featuring a variety of performances, speakers and other events that highlight scholarly and creative work of UWF faculty, staff and students.

Featured events during the Scholars Celebration include the 13th Annual Women Studies Conference, to be held on Wednesday, April 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the UWF Conference Center. The conference highlights high-quality scholarship by students on women and gender studies, and all members of the University community and general public are invited to attend.

The National Science Foundation and UWF Faculty ADVANCE Showcase will be held on Thursday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Argonaut Athletics Club. This year’s event, focusing on “Celebrating Diversity and Scholarship,” will feature keynote speaker Dr. David Asai, senior director of science education programs at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Maryland. The showcase will also highlight the contributions of the NSF UWF ADVANCE Program and 2014 ADVANCE scholars.

The Student Scholars Symposium will be held on Thursday, April 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the UWF Field House and Argonaut Athletic Club. This event will feature scholarly and creative projects produced through collaboration between UWF students and faculty.

Scholars Celebration is organized by the Office of Undergraduate Research, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, Graduate School, Honors Program, Women’s Studies Program and the UWF Faculty ADVANCE Program, which is supported by the National Science Foundation.
