UWF HOSA Team earns top honors at regional competition

Ten students on the University of West Florida Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) team placed in the Top 3 in their categories at the Northwest Florida regional competition, hosted by Pensacola State College on Jan. 24-25. The 11-person team also earned the Outstanding HOSA Chapter Award for the region.

The event judges students in 12 categories ranging from knowledge and writing tests to public speaking competitions. The ten students who placed qualified to progress to the 2013 Florida HOSA State Leadership Conference, which will be held in Orlando on April 4-5.

HOSA is a national organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education Division of ACTE. The organization’s mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA provides leadership training, community service opportunities and academic competitions.
