UWF Department of Music presents the Symphonic Band in concert

The University of West Florida Department of Music will present the Symphonic Band in concert on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the Mainstage Theatre of the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, on the UWF Pensacola Campus.

The University of West Florida Department of Music will present the Symphonic Band in concert on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the Mainstage Theatre of the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, on the UWF Pensacola Campus.

The concert will consist of a mix of original works and transcription for concert band. It will feature transcriptions of “Mars” from “The Planets” by Gustav Holst and “Galop” from the musical comedy “Moscow, Cheremushky” by Dimitri Shostakovich as well as modern works such as “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore, “Esprit De Corps” by Robert Jager and “Fate of the Gods” by Steve Reineke. The concert will also feature Ronald Lo Presti’s “Elegy for a Young American,” written to commemorate John F. Kennedy a year after his assassination.

The highlight of the concert will be “Stormworks” by Stephen Mellilo. This exciting three-movement work is a rhythmic tour de force featuring a large percussion section and the full forces of the wind band.
