UWF Aquatic Center to host public expo and open house

The University of West Florida Recreation and Sports Services will host an Aquatic Expo and Open House from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17. The event is free and open to the public, and members of the community will be able to participate in open swim hours and an inflatable obstacle course. Aquatic Center staff will be available to answer questions about swim memberships, swim lessons, lifeguard and swim instructor training and party rentals. The first 45 expo attendees will receive a coupon for one free swim during normal recreation swim hours.

“Water safety is a big concern for families, especially living in Florida,” said Nancy Quina, aquatic director. “We offer many options for people to learn water safety practices, and we hope families come to this event, see our facilities and take advantage of those opportunities.”

The Olympic-size pool is heated year-round and includes 1-meter and 3-meter spring diving boards, a nine-person whirlpool and a dry sauna.

“The UWF Aquatic Center is a wonderful community resource. Not only does it provide an opportunity for people of all ages to learn to swim, it is also a great recreational outlet,” said William Healey, director of Recreation and Sports Services.

Aquatic Center membership is available on a semester-long or annual basis and includes family, individual, senior (60+), alumni, staff and faculty rates. The pool offers times for adult fitness and recreation swim hours. The facilities are available on a limited basis for private rentals.
