UWF appoints college dean, director of UWF at Emerald Coast

PENSACOLA, Fla. – University of West Florida (UWF) Provost Chula King announced the appointment of Dr. Pamela Northrup to dean of UWF’s College of Professional Studies (COPS), effective immediately.  Northrup served as interim dean of COPS since early 2010.

“The numerous comments I received from COPS faculty and staff regarding this appointment were overwhelmingly positive,” King said. “Pam’s leadership has been nothing short of transformational for the College.”

Northrup has worked for UWF for 18 years as both an administrator and as a faculty member in COPS.

“I am looking forward to continuing to work with the very talented, creative and inspiring faculty, staff and students in the College of Professional Studies,” Northrup said. “We are making a difference through our innovative teaching, research and significant service to the region.”

Northrup holds a doctorate degree from Florida State University in Tallahassee.

King also announced today the appointment of Susan Shaw to director of UWF at Emerald Coast. Shaw has served as interim director since August.

“Susan has a lengthy history of excellent service to the University, and I know she is well prepared for the challenge of serving as our Emerald Coast campus’s director,” said King.

Shaw has worked for UWF for 29 years and most recently served as associate director of marketing communications for UWF at Emerald Coast. She has also been teaching various courses at UWF since 1982. In her new position she will oversee administrative functions, as well as community outreach and engagement.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to be a part of such a transformational time in moving the Emerald Coast forward,” said Shaw. “It’s great to be a part of Dr. Bense’s vision for the University of West Florida.”

Susan holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University (FSU) and an MBA from the University of South Florida (USF).
