University of West Florida Mock Trial Team to host the 6th Annual UWF Argo Invitational

On Jan. 14-15, 2017, the University of West Florida Mock Trial Team will host the Sixth Annual UWF Argo Invitational. The tournament will feature 26 teams from 15 universities from across the country, and each team will compete in four trial rounds that will be judged by local attorneys and judges. The competition will be held in Buildings 71, 78 and 86 in the UWF Mock Trial Courtrooms on the Pensacola Campus.

In addition to one team from UWF, the attendees will include teams from the University of Alabama, Auburn University, Austin College, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, Flagler College, Georgia State University, Hamline University, Kennesaw State University, University of Louisiana at Monroe, Mercer University, Millsaps College and Mississippi Valley State University.

The UWF Mock Trial Team is part of the American Mock Trial Association, a national organization that has sponsored mock trial competitions at the undergraduate level for more than 25 years. The UWF team was formed in 2001 and has competed at the regional and national level, earning numerous team and individual awards over the years. Many of the team members representing UWF in the tournament are legal studies or pre-law majors.

“The UWF Mock Trial Team offers UWF students an opportunity to develop and hone critical thinking skills and legal strategies in a realistic, courtroom setting,” said Dr. Kimberly McCorkle, chair and professor of legal studies, public administration and sport management. “These high-impact experiences will benefit team members during their time in law or graduate school, and well beyond into their careers.”
