Nominations sought for Annual Alumni Awards

The University of West Florida National Alumni Association is gearing up for their 2010 Annual Alumni Awards Recognition Program, which will take place Saturday, March 27 on UWF’s Main Campus in the Conference Center. All alumni and friends are invited to attend the event. The program serves to recognize those who work to help and promote the university and nominations are currently being sought for this year’s awards. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 19 and nomination forms may be submitted via regular mail or online.

Anyone can nominate someone for an alumni award. Those eligible for nomination include alumni, friends, faculty and staff of the university and categories include Honorary Alumnus, Outstanding Young Alumnus, Distinguished Alumnus and Chambered Nautilus Award of Merit.

“This year, we’re mixing it up a bit by holding the alumni awards celebration as an evening event instead of a traditional brunch,” said KC Etheredge, director of Alumni Relations. “I’m working to secure some great speakers, who I hope to announce soon.”

Mollye Barrows, ’96, BA Communication Arts, is serving once again as the program’s emcee. She received an Outstanding Young Alumnus award in 2009.

“I was honored to be a part of the UWF Alumni Awards ceremony,” said Barrows. “It was such a fun event and it was a pleasure to see so many deserving friends and alumni of the university recognized for their support. I suspect this year’s event will be just as wonderful, if not more so.”
