Tropical Storm Karen: Saturday Update 

University officials are continuing to actively monitor Tropical Storm Karen. All UWF campuses are still scheduled to be closed on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013. This includes all classes, events and campus activities. The University will reopen on Monday, Oct. 7.

There are no watches or warnings currently in effect for the northern Gulf Coast area.

Weather information is available by tuning into WUWF at 88.1FM or online at wuwf.org. As additional information becomes available, the University will continue to communicate with students, faculty and staff via email, www.facebook.com/westfl and www.twitter.com/uwf.

Tropical Storm Karen Update: University Closed Sunday, Oct. 6

University officials are continuing to actively monitor Tropical Storm Karen.  All UWF campuses will be closed on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013. This includes all classes, events and campus activities. The University will reopen on Monday, Oct. 7.

Normal University operations, classes, events and campus activities will resume Monday unless conditions change, in which case, University officials will notify all students, faculty and staff.

Residential students should remain within residence halls and limit outside trips to necessary activities on Sunday. Please contact on-call duty residential staff if you have any questions. Dining Services hours for Sunday are the following:

  • The Nautilus Market will be open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
  • Papa John’s in Presidents Hall will be open from 3 p.m. until 1 a.m.

Tropical Storm Karen: Message to Faculty & Staff

University officials are continuing to actively monitor Tropical Storm Karen. At this time, the University is fully operational and all classes and activities remain scheduled.

Faculty and staff are asked to follow the below precautionary measures to prepare work areas for the storm before departing for the weekend:

– Unplug computers and other sensitive electronic equipment, if possible.

– Turn off and unplug your battery backup/uninterruptible power supply (UPS), if possible.

– Ensure that you have taken all computer equipment off the floor (such as towers, monitors, battery backups, and power strips), and placed them on your desk.

– Cover your computer equipment with heavy weight plastic sheeting (see your building emergency coordinator).

– Close your window blinds to help stop potential debris from entering offices.

Please consult with your building emergency coordinator for details and further instruction.

Tropical Storm Karen Update 

University officials are continuing to actively monitor Tropical Storm Karen. A hurricane watch is currently in effect for the northern Gulf Coast including the Pensacola/Ft. Walton Beach areas.

At this time, the University is fully operational and all classes and activities remain scheduled. This includes all Friday and Saturday classes and activities. In the event that a decision is made to cancel classes or halt University operations, a message will be sent to all faculty, staff and students.
