UWF outlines university’s future, master plan

UWF studentsUniversity of West Florida (UWF) officials outlined an updated campus master plan for the growth of the university for the next 20 to 30 years Feb. 6 at a public forum on campus. Plans include mixed use facilities to house classrooms and academic space, residence halls, and retail space; a new student union, an events center, parking garages, restaurants, a hotel/conference center and a football stadium.

"UWF is becoming more of a first-choice school, and to be fully competitive, we must offer a more robust college experience," Bense said. "UWF’s hallmark of a quality education will not change, but this plan for our future will allow us to have state-of-the-art facilities and offer a more holistic student experience."

Logistics Team takes first place at national competition

UWF studentsSix University of West Florida (UWF) students took first place in Denver, Colo., beating out 14 of the top logistics programs in North America during the Operation Stimulus/Denver Transportation Club annual logistics case competition.

The team spent two weeks and nearly 200 hours each preparing a detailed case analysis of a real-world global supply chain logistics management problem before presenting their findings to a panel of experts in Denver. Members of the UWF team included Joseph Gary, Tiffany Marquette, Dillon Lato, James Jackson, Jennifer Ralli and Iginia Parish.

Alumnus contributes to Grammy-winning children’s album

UWF studentsUniversity of West Florida (UWF) graduate Michael DeMaria, 82′ was a contributing artist on the Grammy-winning children’s album, "All About Bullies… Big and Small." The winners were announced Feb. 12 at the Grammy’s in California. This is DeMaria’s fourth Grammy nomination and his first win. His album titled, "Gaia," was nominated for Best New-Age Album of the Year for 2011.

"Having been an advocate for children for close to three decades and having been a victim of bullying myself growing up, it is a project near and dear to my heart, and I couldn’t be more proud and humbled to be part of a Grammy winning project that has such an uplifting and positive message," said DeMaria.
