UWF music student invited to perform at Carnegie Hall

University of West Florida music student, James Matthews, has been chosen as an American Protégé International Piano & Strings Competition 2014 Honorable Mention Winner. Matthews will perform on Sunday, April 20 at 11:30 a.m. in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City, N.Y.

Matthews, a native of Lakeland, Fla., is a junior music performance major in piano and a recipient of a Music Talent Scholarship. Currently, he studies in the studio of Dr. Hedi Salanki, in addition to acting as an accompanist for the UWF Singers and Madrigals. Matthews plans to graduate from UWF in 2015.

Matthews has performed nationally on broadcast station NPR as part of the Music In the Mountains Series at The Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park, Colo.

The American Protégé International Competition is designed for young musicians, actors, singers and dancers on the path to a successful career. The 2014 competitors hail from every corner of the world.
