The University of West Florida College of Business Executive Mentor Program recently hosted a Marine Leadership Workshop featuring Capt. Nicole Villareal Bastian, U.S. Marines Officer Selection Officer. During the workshop, Bastian spoke on “Leading the Community, Leading for Life.”

Bastian was one of the first 24 women to graduate from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. After earning a bachelor’s degree in political science, she attended Stetson University College of Law and then matriculated to Officer Candidate School. Following her commissioning, she completed law school to earn a juris doctorate. After two deployments in Africa, she reported to the Recruiting Station Jacksonville as an Officer Selection Officer in Tallahassee.

More than 50 graduate students enrolled in the UWF Germany MBA program, as well as Executive Mentor Program mentors and students, were in attendance at the free event.

“It was a pleasure to participate in a session with these honorable soldiers,” said Andreas Zender, an MBA student from the UWF campus in Ludwigshafen, Germany. “I never thought it would be possible to link military and leadership in such a positive way.”

The Germany MBA Program is a partnership between the UWF College of Business and the Transatlantik Institut of the Universities of Applied Sciences, Ludwigshafen and Worms. Using its network relationships with the German business community, the Transatlantik Institut recruits mid-level managers to participate in UWF’s MBA program. The German cohort was recently in Pensacola for three weeks of intensive instruction to begin coursework in the MBA program.
