Haas Center at UWF develops mobile app

The Haas Center team at the University of West Florida recently developed an application for mobile devices that serves as a regional economic data dashboard. The Haas Center’s app, which is compatible with iPhone and Android devices, currently serves as the state’s only one-stop resource that provides routine updates on key economic indicators that are relevant to economies across the state of Florida.

The app features national- and state-level data, as well as information for all of Florida’s metropolitan statistical areas relating to broader market trends including employment, unemployment, retail sales, housing prices and commodities.

Within the app, each Florida metro area is summarized in a “snapshot” that displays current values for each of the indicators included, as well as the direction in which the indicator has moved since the release of the previous data point. Ten-year data trends are available in accompanying interactive graphs as well.

The app development was led by the Haas Center’s own Vad Ilin, software engineer and project manager, who was assisted by Martin Roddy, assistant director of Information Technology, Hi Tran, systems analyst, and William Scott, software engineer. The team was supported by senior economist Aaron Schmerbeck, with research assistance provided by Matt Schwalb and Alex Fager.

The Haas Center app is available for free download in the Apple Store and on Google Play. For additional information, visit haas.uwf.edu.
