Emerald Coast BEST robotics competition to be held at UWF on Nov. 7

WHAT: The 2015 Emerald Coast BEST robotics competition will be held at the University of West Florida Field House on Saturday, Nov. 7. BEST encourages high school and middle school students to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics career fields through their participation in the science and engineering-based competition.

WHAT:
The 2015 Emerald Coast BEST robotics competition will be held at the University of West Florida Field House on Saturday, Nov. 7. BEST encourages high school and middle school students to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics career fields through their participation in the science and engineering-based competition.

The 2015 competition is named “Pay Dirt,” and each team will design and build a robotic system to repair a simulated mine and retrieve its resources. The teams will be evaluated based on robot performance, documentation, an oral presentation, a team exhibit, spirit and sportsmanship.

Sponsors for the event include the University of West Florida; AT&T; Gulf Power; the Northwest Florida chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers; the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; and International Paper. Dr. Bradley Regez, program manager and instructor for the UWF Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, leads the event’s steering committee and is the hub director for Emerald Coast BEST. The competition will also take place thanks to the help of more than 50 volunteers.
